The Formula for Coca-Cola
The top-secret formula for Coca-Cola is:
Mix all ingredients except for vanilla and flavoring in boiling water. Boil for ten minutes. Add other ingredients when cool. Let ferment in oaken casks for six months to produce carbonation.
To prevent this formula from falling into enemy hands, only two Coca-Cola executives know it, and each only knows half of the ingredients. The executives are not allowed to travel together and their identities are kept secret, because if one of them died, Coke would lose half its sales.
Behind the Legend
As exotic as these security measures sound, they're really not that unusual for corporate America. For example, only two KFC executives know the Colonel's secret blend of eleven herbs and spices, they have sworn a blood oath to defend that knowledge to the death, and each carries a cyanide pill in a hollow tooth in case of capture by agents of Popeye's or Church's.
A word of warning: Don't call up Coca-Cola and ask if you can buy a copy of the recipe. They may say okay, but they'll charge your credit card $1.5 million for it after making you think you're gong to pay $1.50. Also, once you know the recipe you have to become a company executive, and you wouldn't want that.
